About Pennsylvania Macaroni Co.
Located at 2010 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, Pennsylvania Macaroni Co. operates as an italian deli serving Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 8 amβ4 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (412) 227-1982. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, pennmac.com.
Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 2,252 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian delis & bakeries in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Pittsburgh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

All I can say about this place is OMG it is a home cook's dream. Between the fresh cheeses, the varitiy of meats and spices and pasta everywhere it was hard to take it all in. I found some pasta that was had been looking for everywhere, so I bought a good bit. The prices were pretty good as well. The peperoni sticks that I saw, and wanted but had no cooler to bring home, were cheaper than the sliced in the stores back home! There was also amazing looking fresh produce and cooking gadgets galore! I am so happy that they have a website I can get some of the stuff I wanted then but couldn't!

Penn Mac in the Strip District has an incredible selection of cheeses, meats, pastas, and other specialty items. It is a great place to visit, and they allow you to sample products before you buy, which is very helpful when making a selection. The store is clean, organized, and the staff provides friendly service.

One of the best and most classic shops in the strip. Also know that wholesaler prices are so good. If you need to buy in volume just ask for wholesale. We stock up on mascarpone, ladyfingers, cornstarch, etc and get great prices on the good stuff. These guys are great. Just stop for the history and stay for the great range or product. And yeah the cheese side smells like Gods feet! Itβs a must see.

The Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, affectionately known as "Penn Mac" by locals, is a historic Italian specialty market that has been a cornerstone of Pittsburgh's Strip District since 1902. Founded by the Sunseri family, it has grown from a small pasta manufacturer into a legendary destination for food lovers, renowned for its massive selection of imported and domestic gourmet goods. I stop here everytime I'm in the Strip District. They have all different types of cheeses, olives and even different oils you can get from a tap!

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, I was in awe β we donβt have markets like this where Iβm from. The cheese counter alone was an experience: I sampled some of the best Parmesan and goat cheese Iβve ever had, and the girl working there was so knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. The owner, Bill, even introduced himself while I was wandering around, which made the visit feel extra personal. The staff across the store were just as great β from the deli guys talking about how much they love working there to Lauren, who helped me track down ingredients. Everything I picked up (fresh pasta, incredible bread, specialty olive oil) turned into one of the best home-cooked meals Iβve made. The vibe is buzzing and busy but never overwhelming, with everyone clearly loving what they do. 10/10 β if you havenβt been to Penn Mac, make it a priority. Itβs more than a market, itβs an experience.
